You might wonder why a site usually devoted to cheap London hotels has a page about a bed and breakfast in Stratford-Upon Avon. I hope you will understand better after I explain.
Hearing that David Tenant was performing Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' my wife scoured the Internet for a nice bed and breakfast for us to stay at in Stratford upon Avon. She eventually settled on the Old Post House bed and breakfast in Wilmcote. This is what it looks like .
A bed and breakfast in Stratford Upon Avon of the very highest standard.
My wife had chosen this particular Bed - breakfast for the simple reason that it was just out of town, plus we had the option of parking or of being personally dropped in town then being collected at an appointed time by the owner for a small cost.
On our arrival we were greeted most warmly to this very old cottage as well as being made to feel extremely welcome. The owners of this bed and breakfast having absolutely no idea that I own as well as run the UK Hotels Register.
We were shown to our room which was our first big surprise. It was much larger than we had envisaged, airy and bright with a view over a true English garden.
After more than a decade of assessing hotels, bed and breakfasts and the likes I am very critical when looking at a hotel room. Does the television work ? Is there enough tea and coffee? Is the coffee the cheapest they can find ? In the bathroom do the mirrors look as if they were cleaned recently, is the shower area wiped down? Then most importantly is the bed and bedding crisp as well as clean or is maybe the mattress past it's best before date?
The owners of this bed and breakfast had thought of absolutely everything. Not only was the coffee about the best you could have, there was none of that horrid UHT milk but rather fresh milk stored in a flask. Not only was the TV working with a good picture but it was also a DVD player and a library of some 30 or 40 movie DVD's were stored underneath.
The bed and bedding were fresh, crisp as wll as a delight to sleep in.
On the night of the play we intended to see we also availed ourselves of the service to be dropped off then to be picked up again. Once more we found the owner to be extremely helpful as well as friendly.
Breakfast could best be described as an experience. Normally with a bed and breakfast you expect the usual tea, toast followed by bacon and eggs. Not so at this bed and breakfast. There was the usual cereals on the side table for a guest to help themselves. I can remember fresh strawberries and kiwi fruit, dates, apricots, figs, yogurts. This was followed by bacon and eggs, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms. A breakfast fir for a king. I never dreamed that a place like Stratford upon Avon could be the place to find what must be one of the very finest bed and breakfasts in the UK. My wife and I were made to feel so welcome at this bed and breakfast where nothing was ever too much trouble, that I decided that if I could help the owners to succeed then I would. Hence this page. |
